SCANDINAVIAN BIG MOUNTAIN CHAMPIONSHIPS
Arranged annually since 1992, the Scandinavian Big Mountain Championships is the world´s original big mountain competition. Hosting ski area for the event is the small resort of Riksgränsen, located above the Arctic Circle on the border between Sweden and Norway.
The SBMC is not only a race for glory and prize money. It is also the grande finale of the European freeride season with midnight sun skiing and partying in a relaxed atmosphere.

SBMC 2013 Day 2:
The second day of the SBMC 2013, and the first of two final runs, is completed.
Tomorrow we will know the names of the Scandinavian Big Mountain Champions in the disciplins of alpine, snowboard and telemark.
The snow conditions were great but due to poor visibility there were quite a few crashes. In men’s alpine, Kristofer Turdell defended his position from day one with high speed and big jumps. Wille Lindberg also kept his second place from day one. Dan Sunnerheim performed a spectacular run. He was the only rider who jumped both the big cliffs at ”Insteget”, Nordalsfjäll. The judges awarded him 7.34 points finishing in third place today. In women’s alpine Filippa Ring performed a solid run. Karin Stöckel and Lotten Rapp came in second and third place respectively.
Among the snowboarders, Björn Lindgren was outstanding. He combined a technical run with several jumps including his back flip trademark.

SBMC 2013 Day 1:
The first day of the SBMC 2013 concluded today at Nordalsfjäll in Riksgränsen, Sweden, with great snow conditions and 170 competitors in the disciplines alpine, snowboard and telemark.
Swedish big mountain stars Reine Barkered and Wille Lindberg corresponded to
high expectations with fast and fluid runs. Best performance in men´s alpine came from Kristofer Turdell who took the top position with a big 360, fast and technical turns, finishing his line with the biggest straight air of the day. Another top performer was Olle Regnér who took the third place with a score of 7,70.
Local rookie in womens alpine, Karin Stöckel, took the top position followed by Matilda Rapaport, Filippa Ring and Jackie Paaso, USA. The top four were separated by a score of 0,53 only. Per Jonsson dominated among the telemarkers with high speed, big air and solid control. Stefan Östling is in the lead in men´s snowboard. He took a smart line linking a number of features in the venue. Niklas Hollsten from Finland was in second place followed by local crowd pleaser Tomas "Tompi" Johansson. Topping the field for women´s snowboard was Sara Hultman followed by Mikaela Hollsten and Emma Bernström.
